Growing Girl

Wednesday Karla had a physical with her pediatrician. She is 28.6 lbs (50th percentile) and 35 1/2" (25th percentile). I forgot to ask what her height was last time they measured her but Jason and I have kept track on the above pictured wall. She has grown almost an inch in just 5 months! We've seen 2 people this week that hadn't seen Karla in 3-4 weeks and both said she looked so much taller. I think the "no diaper look" does something for her too! :)

Today we had to go to her allergist for a check-up. We increased her asthma medication that she receives in her nebulizer on Aug 22 after 1 1/2 months of a decreased amount. The doctor said we should continue at this higher dose for the next several months. When we go back we'll talk about using an inhaler with a spacer (she used this after she was hospitalized last winter) rather than using the nebulizer. That means treatment would only be a minute rather than up to 15 minutes! He said it depends on how she handles the spacer - meaning will she sit there for a minute and breathe in and out while we do it. I think she definitely will. She is so good about the nebulizer - it is just part of her routine.

In the picture Karla is wearing the outfit Jason bought her in San Francisco in Chinatown last week.

I've been meaning to mention that I added a "widget" (I think that is what it is called) at the bottom of my blog. It has a countdown of days until Karla's birthday. I found it online and thought it was neat. Karla talks about her birthday for some reason almost everyday so I thought I'd get excited about it too!

Karla's conversation about marriage

I had to write this down before I forgot. Tonight Karla was having a snack before bed in the dining room with me. There is a picture on the wall of Jason and I at our wedding. She has also just started to show interest in photo albums today. So we were looking at one with pictures taken right after our wedding. So while she was eating we were looking through an album and I was "reading" it to her. She really liked the picture of Jason carrying me over the threshold of our first apartment. (wish the pic was digital and I would upload it...too lazy to scan it right now) Anyway, she asked lots of why questions about that picture and wanted to know things like whether or not I was too heavy for Daddy. Then she asked why we were married. Here's our conversation:

Karla: Why Daddy and Mommy married, Mommy?
Me: Because we love each other.
K: Oh. (pause) Karla's married too.
M: (chuckles) Really? To who?
K: To Mommy. We love other. (pause) Mommy pick Karla up and carry.

Funny Karla Things

At dinner Sunday night Karla was telling us about what she learned at Sunday School. Then she proceeded to tell us that God was sitting at the table with us in one of our two extra chairs. Then she told us that Jesus was sitting in the other extra chair. The next day, without thinking of course, I tried to sit in "God's chair" and she yelled "no sit there Mommy, God's chair". Then we talked about sharing and she decided God would share the chair with me. Although I have to admit...I felt a bit strange sitting in God's chair. :)

Last night we were watching an episode of The Backyardigans. "The Cave Party" for those of you who are familiar with the Backyardigans. Anyway, it was the first time we had seen the episode and Pablo and two of his friends were trying to walk on ice and fell down. Karla, for some reason, thought this was hilarious. Then Pablo and his friends put on ice skates and started to skate. Karla jumped up and said "Be back Mommy. Ice skate Pablo. Jump in TV." She wanted to jump in the TV to skate with Pablo. So then we had to discuss WHY that wouldn't work. She was so excited at the thought of jumping in the TV and skating with Pablo I wished I could let her do it! :)

In other news...Jason, his dad and brother labored on the shed for more than half the day yesterday. Jason just has to put shingles on and work on the door latch. Then paint the whole thing. It is looking good though!

GREAT-Grandparents

What a week!

My sister, Brenda, is moving to CA next week, my parents are in Colorado, Jason is in San Francisco....so Karla and I went to her great-grandparents house for a few days! I thought it was time to get away too. :) Karla has only spent the night at my parents for one night at a time so this was new and exciting for her. She even told me today she didn't want to come home. She wanted to stay at Mammy and Pappy's. She had lots of fun and is worn out!

On Monday we met with Brenda and Russ and all 4 of my grandparents for dinner. It was a farewell lunch for Brenda and Russ. It was nice to all be together but good-byes are always a bit sad!

While we were at Mammy and Pappy's house we got to see the next door neighbor's goats, chickens, geese, and ducks. Karla got to feed and pet the little goat.
We "worked out"...

...played the piano and sang...

...helped get the mail...

...and ate LOTS of cake and homemade ice cream!! I've never seen Karla eat so much ice cream!

Karla didn't have any accidents the whole time we were gone either!

I've uploaded some new pictures to flickr.
